A BOTANISTS GARDEN

WEST OXFORD GARDEN

This was one of the most challenging sites to design given the steep slope. By using zig-zagg paths and bold swathes of plants a centrepiece was created, which has given the garden a new lease of life and paid homage to its history.

Originally the home of Primrose Warburgh and her botanist husband, it is where Galanthus ‘South Hayes’ and ‘Primrose Warburgh’ both originated.

The garden had been neglected for years and many of the specimen shrubs removed.

The new planting has transformed the garden, bringing it up to date, whilst respecting it’s rich botanical history. This project far exceeded expectations and continues to flourish year after year.

As a result of this bold design, Sarah Naybour Design was awarded a silver medal at the prestigious APL awards 2020

TESTAMONIAL

“With Uni and schools now closed and enforced working from home, the next few weeks (possibly months?) are going to be a challenge.  As I said to my colleagues in my final day in the office today, my garden will be my sanctuary in the coming weeks.  Just a shame that we may not be able to open for NGS this year.’
