PADDOCK GARDEN

FROM A FIELD TO A GARDEN

There is quite a story to this garden.

I had designed a very small garden for a wonderful client who, several years later, called to say she had bought the adjacent paddock and could I work on creating a new space for her !

It was a very large space so the client and I decided to keep half as paddock and apply for change of use for the remainder.

A complete blank canvass, with a Design Brief that included a wildlife pond, communal kitchen garden to be shared with neighbours, access to the paddock for the farmer, a deck, hot tub and pergola…. The client is partially disabled so I kept the site as level as possible and set the hot tub at seat height for easy access.

She also wanted a lot of planting and fruit trees.

The areas near to the house have been kept reasonably formal with brick paths laid through blocks of colourful planting. The feel gradually becomes looser and wilder as the garden extends out to the pond and meadow areas, before joining the paddock beyond.

As the client approached retirement she took up beekeeping and consequently married her Apiculture mentor. They have now added a Bee Barn for honey production and open every year with the NGS scheme.

TESTAMONIAL

“ I was really delighted with the whole process and particularly with the end result! I have a beautiful garden that I truly love being in…”
